We
welcome you to the Brownwood District of the Central
Texas Conference of the United Methodist
Church. The district is one of seven districts that make up the Central
Texas Conference. We are located in the central part of Texas serving
Bosque, Brown, Callahan, Coleman, Comanche, Eastland, Erath, Hamilton,
Mills, Runnels and Stephens Counties. The District serves forty-nine
congregations and over 10,000 United Methodist members.
The
area is mostly rural with peanuts, pecans, dairy production, beef cattle,
sheep and goats, wheat, sorghum, cotton, hay being our major agriculture
production. There is deer, dove and turkey hunting. Oil, gas and light
manufacturing are the primary industries of the district.
We
serve the student needs of Tarleton
State University, Howard Payne University,
Cisco
Junior College and Ranger Junior
College with over nine thousand students, many of them Methodists.
Aldersgate
Enrichment Center, a Methodist shelter workshop sponsored by the United
Methodist Men, is located in Early. It provides training, a workshop
and group home for some seventy-two Associates.
