Heritage Sunday is fast approaching! This special observance to commemorate our United Methodist Heritage will be celebrated on May 18.

This year, Methodists will celebrate the 100th year of our Social Creed. To be in line with this great event, I have rewritten certain portions of my circuit rider monologue, "God's Cavalryman," to reflect our ministry to the oppressed and needy. Congregations will hear about our historical opposition to slavery and alcohol, as well as repeat the Rule of John Wesley.

God's Cavalryman

Your congregation will never forget Obadiah Ryder, "God's Cavalryman." A fourth-generation circuit rider, Obadiah will tramp into your church in authentic Western longcoat, hat, jingling spurs and saddlebags.

This 30-minute monologue is packed with good humor, audience interaction, singing and real-life tales from the old frontier. Plus, your congregation will hear a 4-minute prerecorded narrative on the history of the Methodist circuit rider. Education and entertainment--all in one package!

"I was really looking forward to God's Cavalryman, but I had no idea that it would so far exceed my expectations.  Your gifts of drama and humor really amazed me as you delivered such an awe-inspiring and laughter-evoking message.  I am still hearing comments around town about how great it was.  And it just fit right in with our church's anniversary as well as Coleman's Sesquicentennial.  I didn't want it to end!"

Attention pastors: New Dove System requires your cooperation

A message from CTC IT director Tracy Dean: The conference will launch the new Dove database system soon. Sometime in the next few weeks you should be getting an e-mail from York Technologies welcoming you to the Dove System. Do not delete this e-mail!  Please read it thoroughly and follow the instructions.  There will be a training video and a request to log in and change your password.  Once logged in, I encourage you to update your information on past appointments, birth date, etc. Once this system is fully operational, it will be the conference’s primary resource for contacting and information sharing. Hence, it is important that everyone use this system.  Thank you for your support in bringing this great new system online.

Reminder to Clergy & UMC Members:

All clergy and lay persons are encouraged to fill in the talent bank form located on the conference website at www.ctcumc.org/talentbank.
