Women in ministry experiences needed

The Commission on Inclusiveness is asking for stories from laity and clergy, male and female, about how their experience with a clergy woman - at some point along the way - was a blessing.  What about the first woman pastor you ever met?  Or those special "God moments" when your mind was changed about women pastors by an act of grace?  Was there a time that because of a clergywoman you saw something about your faith differently? If you can add to this body of information, please send your comments to Lisa Baumgartner at revbaum@gmail.com or revbaum@earthlink.net or Lisa Baumgartner, Bosqueville UMC, 7327 Rock Creek Rd, Waco TX 76708. She will be assembling a booklet of these stories during the next month for distribution at Annual Conference in June.

Friendly reminder!!!

Each local UMC in the Central Texas Conference should have its Safe Sanctuary/ Abuse Prevention Policy adopted, implemented, and submitted to their district superintendent’s office by May 1, 2006.  This was proposed and adopted by the CTC Annual Conference at its last meeting in June 2005. For further information and resources, contact Karen Granderson, 817-877-5222, 1-800-460-8622, or Karen@ctcumc.org.

Celebrating the musical genius of Charles Wesley

In 2007, we celebrate the 300th anniversary of the birth of one of the most prolific hymn writers in history — Charles Wesley.  To celebrate the life, mission, and music of this great individual, Music Celebrations International is organizing a Choir Festival in the Lincoln Center in New York City and we are inviting Methodist choirs from across the country to come together in New York to fellowship through music and to share the message through song. A new commissioned piece entitled "Directions for Singing" will be premiered at this event with full orchestra.  The goal is to have representation from each jurisdication at this event.  We are trying to locate fine Methodist choirs who can participate in this once in a lifetime opportunity. Resource Center new arrival

New resources highlighted at the Conference Resource Center this week are described below. For these and many more resources, contact Carol Roszell at 817-877-5222 or 800-460-8622. New arrivals include:

Theologians Under Hitler.  A DVD film by Steven D. Martin based upon the groundbreaking book by Robert P. Ericksen.  Rather than resisting, the greater part of the German church saw Hitler’s rise in 1933 as an act of God’s blessing, a new chapter in the story of God among the German people.  This film, based upon research, introduces the viewer to three of the greatest Christian scholars of the twentieth century: Paul Althaus, Emanual Hirsch, and Gerhard Kittel, men who were also outspoken supporters of Adolf Hitler. This provocative film asks: how could something like this happen the heart of Christian Europe?  Could it happen again? How does the scholarship of this period affect the church today? Does the church of today retain the ability to recognize profound evil?  64 minutes. Includes study guide.

Merit and Stephens scholarships (repeat)

If you have a deserving student in your congregation who would benefit from a scholarship, check out the Conference Merit Award scholarship of $500 for first-time students attending a UM-related school or university. New this year is the $1,000 Stephens Scholarship in Finance/Accounting offered to a UM student preparing for a career in finance/accounting. For this scholarship, the applicant is asked to provide a statement on how their education will help to undergird good stewardship in the church today and in the future. Information on these programs and application forms have been e-mailed to all pastors and is also available by contacting Susan Briles at 817-877-5222, 800-460-8622 or susan@ctcumc.org.

We are seeking an entire praise band to alternate Sundays with our existing Praise Band in handling the music for this service. The preferred arrangement would be a group consisting of a drummer, bass guitar, rhythm and lead guitar, keyboards and vocalists. A state of the art sound system, monitors, microphones, keyboard and lighting system is provided.  You just bring your talent and instruments.  Use of the facility and sound system for a weekly practice session is also included.  Davis Memorial UMC currently has a contemporary worship service Saturday evening led by alternating 2 primary praise bands as well as guest artists.  Also the 3rd Friday night of each month, our young adult praise band conducts a contemporary service.  There is a strong base of praise band support, talent and sharing available with this opportunity. Please contact worship chair Steve Barber at 682-560-2428 or stevebarber@charter.net if your praise band is interested.
